New DVD Series - Chinese Musical Journeys

The combination of music and sights in Naxos Chinese Musical Journeys gives you a unique glimpse of the history of China in a way that few other DVDs can match. Chinese music from both traditional and modern sources, played on traditional Chinese instruments, sets the audio backdrop for your journey. The entire history of China begins through a visit to Xian, home of the historical Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the terracotta warriors in the mausoleum of the first emperor. Hangzhou shows the further development of the Middle Kingdom, with views of the famous West Lake and its bordering pavilions and temples. Scenic Guilin paints a unique vision of rural China and shows how close traditional Chinese art, with its looming mountains and wandering rivers, imitates the actual landscape. Modern China comes with Beijing and Shanghai, with their mix of old and new and East and West. Ideal for those familiar with China or those planning to visit.
