BOCCHERINI Six Sonatas for Cello and Piano (arr. Alfredo Piatti)

Originally published in London in 1771, these six Sonatas for cello and basso continuo were arranged for cello and piano by the influential Italian virtuoso cellist Alfredo Piatti in the 1870s and are performed here on modern instruments by outstanding young musicians. The Russian cellist Fedor Amosov has taken first prize in several international competitions, including the 2007 Knushevitzky Competition. Boccherini’s blend of virtuosity and melancholy singing style remains to the fore in Piatti’s technically demanding adaptations which, at times, differ both in the cello and keyboard realisations from modern editions of the sonatas derived from other manuscript sources.

Musiken från sagobröllopet! Sagan blev sann, mannen av folket fick sin prinsessa. Och nu finns skivan med musiken från vigseln i Storkyrkan. Med de artister som framförde den; Björn Skifs och Agnes i duetten som är Daniels egen kärleksförklaring till Victoria, Storkyrkans kör och Kungliga filharmonikerna under ledning av Gustaf Sjökvist, Jeanette Köhn, brusande orgelmusik, fanfar, psalmsång och till och med kyrkklockorna!
Dessutom samlingsmusiken som framfördes innan brudparet kom in i kyrkan, bl a folkmusiklåtarna komponerade och framförda av Daniels farbror Hugo Westling men även Adolf Fredriks flickkör.
Skivan levereras i en exklusiv så kallad ”digi-pack” och den medföljande cd-boken är på hela 36 sidor med många bilder.

Sometimes a fairy tale comes true…Daniel got his Princess! Sometimes, reality surpasses the fairy tale. Or, at least equals it. On 19 June 2010, Daniel Westling, a man of the people, got his Princess and became Prince Daniel. His very touching wedding dinner speech to his beloved, the Swedish Crown Princess Victoria, is already a classic moment in Sweden and was via television followed by an audience of millions.
Music was a vital part of the wedding, starting already on the couple’s way to the Storkyrkan church. Some genuine folk music was composed and performed by Prince Daniel’s uncle Hugo Westling, and other notable names performing the mostly newly written music was the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Choir of Storkyrkan, soprano Jeanette Köhn, Björn Skifs & Agnes, Girls Choir of Adolf Fredrik’s Music School, Wind Band from the Armed Forces and organist Mattias Wäger. The conductor and musical director of the event was Gustaf Sjökvist, in fact the same role he had at the Royal Wedding in 1996!
The music from the ceremony is available on CD. Released on the label Ladybird, distributor Naxos Sweden and Arvato Digital Services managed to turn the production of the exclusively packaged CD set featuring the original music in a record time of three days; Tuesday to Thursday then to be transported within 12 hours to Sweden, distributed to the shops and on the shelves ready for the anticipating buyers already on Tuesday.
It was a big team effort by both companies and its entire staff showing the fast and precise work that made this fast turnaround possible.

The art of Shakespeare was a recurring fascination for Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. In addition to two operas and numerous settings of songs and sonnets, he wrote 11 Shakespeare Overtures which here receive their first ever complete recording. Deploying all the resources of the symphony orchestra, these are some of the twentieth century’s most dramatic and tuneful orchestral works, spectacular evocations of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. Volume Two will be available on Naxos 8.572501 in October 2010. Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s settings of Shakespeare songs can be heard on Marco Polo 8.223729.
