This June marks the 100th birthdays of two distinctive American composers – Bernard Herrmann and Alan Hovhaness.

Bernard Herrmann was active as a musician on several levels. He left behind a legacy of major film scores, recordings for many labels, and concert works. In many respects he remains the most influential of all composers writing for film.

Alan Hovhaness is one of Americas most idiosyncratic musical pioneers who sought a musical reconciliation between East and West, spiritual and mundane, long before it was fashionable to do so.

Check out some of their masterpieces in acclaimed Naxos recordings.
