Story:  The people of Detroit know 8 Mile as the city limit, a border, a boundary. It is also a psychological dividing line that separates Jimmy Smith Jr. from where and who he wants to be. 8 Mile is a fictional examination of a critical week in Jimmy’s life. Rapper Eminem stars in his first leading movie role.

Story:  Warren Schmidt, a man in his 60s feels all at loss when he faces retirement.  Shortly afterwards his wife passes away and he must come to terms with his daughter’s marriage to a man of whom he does not approve. He realizes that his own life has been a failure.

Story:  Based on the true story of con artist Frank Abagnale Jr. who managed to pass himself off as an airline pilot, doctor, assistant attorney general and history professor. He also cashed  in more than US$ 2 million in fraudulent cheques, before being finally tracked down and apprehended by FBI agent Hanratty.

Story:  Picard and his crew of the Enterprise are deflected to the planet Romulus, supposedly to negotiate peace with the Romulans. It is soon obvious, however, that the Romulans have no thoughts of peace – they are planning an attack on Earth.

Story:  After his divorce Detective Vincent La Marca leaves Long Island for a distinguished career with the New York Police Department. His devotion to the cause and his incorruptibility are well known but they are both put to the test when in a murder case everything points to his son, with whom he has not been able to maintain a working relationship.

Story:  Toula Portokalos is Greek and works in the family’s restaurant, Dancing Zorba’s. All her father wants is for her to marry a nice Greek boy. But Toula falls in love with a high school teacher, Ian. and they date secretly before telling her father. Some adjustments have to be made: Gus has to live with having a non-Greek for a son-in-law and Ian has to get used to Toula’s family which is huge.

Story:  The heroine of a popular video games series, Lara Croft, comes to life in this movie. She is a wealthy tomb raider/archaeologist forever in search of treasures and artifacts in ancient tombs and ruins. Like a female Indiana Jones she sets to outwit a secret society bent on acquiring supreme power over the world.

Story:  A prototype fighter plane is stolen from the US Government and top spy Alex Scott is sent to bring it back. A wealthy weapons dealer, Arnold Gundars, is the prime suspect. To get close to him Alex is joined by Kelly Robinson, a boxing champion who counts Gundars among his most fervent fans and has a fight scheduled for the city where he is keeping the plane.

Story:  This is the story, set in 1961, of the maiden voyage of Russia’s first nuclear submarine and how it malfunctions, risking not only the lives of the crew but also a major nuclear disaster on the scale of Chernobyl. Captain Alexei Vostrikov and his crew race against time.

Cast:  Ben Affleck (Jack Ryan), Morgan Freeman (DCI William Cabot), James Cromwell (President Fowler), Ken Jenkins (Adm. Pollack), Liev Schreiber (John Clark)

Story:  When the Russian president unexpectedly dies and is succeeded by someone whose politics are virtually unknown, panic strikes American CIA officials. CIA director William Cabot recruits young analyst Jack Ryan to advise on the situation. Then without warning a nuclear bomb detonates in a US city and everybody blames the Russians, but behind it all are terrorists. The movie is based on yet another novel by Tom Clancy, featuring Jack Ryan.

Story:  This movie is based on Wladyslaw Szpilman’s memoirs and shows him as a brilliant pianist. Being a Polish Jew he witnesses the restrictions the Nazis place on Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. When his family is rounded up to be sent off to the Treblinka concentration camp, he manages to escape deportation by living in the ruins of Warsaw.

Story:  Determined to have a normal family life when his mother gets out of prison, a Scottish teenager from a tough background sets out to raise money for a home. Another masterpiece of everyday realism from Ken Loach, director of ‘Kes’, ‘Bread and Roses’, ‘My Name is Joe’, ‘Carla’s Song’ and many others

Story:  This is a biography of John Forbes Nash Jr., a mathematics genius able to solve problems that baffled the greatest of minds. Also how he managed to overcome bouts of schizophrenia to crown his career by receiving the Nobel Prize.
