Ludi Musici is a record label founded in 2006 that specialises mainly in classical music but also explores some areas of “crossover” repertoire – especially repertoire that bridges the gap between classical music and world music. Instead of churning out the kind of “cultural goods” with which the market is already saturated, Ludi Musici offers listeners coherent artistic projects that do not necessarily conform to any particular genre but whose aim is to appeal to the eyes as much as to the ears, and in which the pleasure of listening to the music is complemented by the pleasure of reading about it.

The philosophy of the label is simple: it aims to bring to the attention of the public unusual and varied repertoire from the fields of early music and world music, performed by outstanding artists, accompanied by scholarly and engaging articles, elegant packaging, a substantial and lavishly illustrated booklet, all presented in a sumptuous book/CD format that makes each release an eminently collectable objet d’art that will give its owner hours of pleasure – something to be listened to over and over again, to be read and re-read.

The Swiss recording company "Pan Classics" was founded in 1992 by the music firm Pan in Zurich and was acquired by the recording engineers Clément Spiess and Koichiro Hattori in 1997. Since then, the company has been located in Vevey, on Lake Geneva.

In 2005, the decision was made to undertake a radical new beginning: the substantial catalog was lightened, and the remaining recordings received an attractive new appearance. In the now-obligatory "Digipacks,” the most striking design element is a square which has been punched out to allow the cover motive to be only partially visible. This unmistakable exterior lends the CDs a high degree of recognition value.

Surviving through the reorganization, however, is the preference for non-mainstream repertoire and a natural affinity for Swiss musicians and ensembles. The catalog also includes, of course, many international artists and ensembles of note, such as the Vienna String Sextet, Isabelle Faust, Roland Pöntinen, and Edoardo Torbianelli, just to name a few. The Amphion Wind Ensemble is also counted among the international artists at Pan Classics. This ensemble, ranked alongside the very best wind ensembles playing on historical instruments, is comprised of musicians who came into contact and founded the ensemble at the renowned early music academy, Schola Cantorum Basel.
