Xavier Montsalvatge’s Complete Piano Works
January 21, 2008
Pianist and Naxos recording artist Jordi Masó recently began a recording project of the complete piano works of the 20th century Spanish composer Xavier Montsalvatge (1912-2002). Montsalvatge’s varied compositional influences resulted in a most intriguing musical style.
The first recording sessions for this project, entailing the works for solo piano, took place on 28 and 29 December 2007 at the Auditorium in Jafre, Spain. Among the works recorded were the Sonatine pour Yvette (1959), the Three Impromptus (1933), his first and prize-winning composition, and the late work El arca de Noé (1990). The sessions were produced and engineered by Miquel Roger.
Future recording sessions will include the works for piano and orchestra, to feature Masó and the Granollers Chamber Orchestra conducted by Francesc Guillén.
