Hans Krása’s Brundibar Podcast Now Available

February 1, 2008

Brundibar was first performed in 1943 in the Terezin concentration camp. Of the 15,000 children who passed through this camp, only 132 survived. This podcast features an interview with Ela Stein Weissberger – one of those who survived, and who took part in those original productions of this children’s opera.

Opera News, the national opera magazine published by the Metropolitan Opera Guild, has listed the Naxos recording of Hans Krása's Brundibár among the top ten CDs it reviewed in 2007, praising "the sprightly performance … by Gerard Schwarz and Music of Remembrance". This is the first recording of Brundibár with the new English libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner.
