Complete Recording of Handel’s Oratorio Israel in Egypt February 14, 2008
The Aradia Ensemble and Chorus, under the direction of Kevin Mallon, recorded a complete performance of Handel's oratorio Israel in Egypt, based on the biblical story of Moses leading the enslaved Israelis out of ancient Egypt. The mainly choral work is full of vivid interpretations of the various plagues brought upon Egypt, though during his time the oratorio was considered one of Handel’s less successful works by an audience that wanted bigger parts and more arias for vocal soloists.
The soloists in this production were Jennifer Such, Eve Rachel Mc Leod and Laura Albino (soprano), Jennifer Ens Modolo (alto), Nils Brown, Bud Roach (tenor), Sean Watson and Jason Nedecky (bass). Sessions took place from 2 to 10 January 2008 at St. Anne's Church in Toronto, Canada. The recording was produced and engineered by Norbert and Bonnie Kraft.
