Symphonic works by celebrated Azerbaijani composer Kara Karayev

Three works by Kara Karayev (1918 - 1982) were recorded for Naxos by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Dmitry Yablonsky. Little known in the West, the Azerbaijani composer was mentored by Dmitry Shostakovich. He wrote around 110 works and was acclaimed People's Artist of the USSR in 1959, and a Hero of Socialist Labour in 1978 on his 60th birthday. Recorded were his Symphony No.3 (1964), the symphonic poem Leyli I Mejnun, which was awarded a Stalin Prize in 1948, and Don Kikhot, symphonic sketches for orchestra.

Sessions took place from March 2 to 6, at the Russian State TV & Radio Company kultura, Studio 5, in Moscow, Russia and were produced in Surround Sound by Lubov Doronina. The engineer was Aleksandr Karasev.
