Takako Nishizaki Records Suzuki Violin School

May 5, 2008

Takako Nishizaki

From 23 to 27 April, 2008 Naxos artist Takako Nishizaki, today’s most recorded violinist, recorded all the pieces of books 1-8 of the Suzuki Violin School in Hamilton, New Zealand. She already recorded the music of books 9 and 10, Mozart’s concertos Nos. 5 and 4, as part of her recording of the complete works for violin and orchestra of Mozart for Naxos.

Dunedin-based New Zealand pianist Terence Dennis was the pianist for the Hamilton recordings. The sessions took place at the Gallagher Concert Chamber of the Hamilton Performing Arts Center and were produced by Wayne Laird. The recordings will be released on 6 CDs later this year, together with the original versions of the many arrangements and with the full orchestral versions of the various concertos included in the Suzuki Violin School. The artists also recorded the movements of the Seitz Concertos Nos. 2 and 5 that are not included in the Suzuki Violin School.

Takako Nishizaki studied with Shinichi Suzuki himself and with her father Shinji who was involved in the development of the method in his hometown Nagoya after the war. Takako was the youngest violinist ever to complete all ten books of the School and received her Suzuki teaching diploma at the tender age of nine. Together with her two sisters and a few other children she demonstrated the benefits of the method for all visiting dignitaries in the early years of the development of the Suzuki movement.
