Few Words…a Lot of Sound—José Serebrier Interview

April 27, 2009

The Virtuoso Voices section of the Public Broadcasting website has a fascinating interview with José Serebrier by David Srebnik:

This conductor speaks softly and carries a big stick. Conductor Arturo Toscanini was known as the poster child for bad behavior on the podium. Fortunately the days of the yelling, screaming, raging tyrant conductor are mostly over. To get an orchestra to do what he wants, conductor José Serebrier rarely speaks.

Listen to José Serebrier's story on the Public Broadcasting website.

José Serebrier is one of the most recorded conductors of our generation. Learn and hear more about the Uruguay-born conductor of Russian and Polish parents here.
