TORONTO: London-based guitarist Graham Devine recorded a programme of 20th Century British masterpieces for solo guitar in Toronto in July.The programme included all of Lennox Berkeley's solo guitar music, as well as the magnificent Bagatelles by William Walton, and works by Richard Rodney Bennett and Peter Maxwell Davies.

TORONTO: In August, Naxos producers Norbert Kraft & Bonnie Silver recorded a unique project with pianist Edmund Battersby, of Bloomington, Indiana. Battersby played Beethoven's "Diabelli Variations" on both a modern 9 ft. Steinway piano, as well as a reproduction of an 1825 fortepiano by Graf, built by R.J. Regier of Freeport, Maine, U.S.A.

HONG KONG - Violinist Takako Nishizaki and Leung Kin-Fung, first associate concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, prepare for a day of recording with conductor and arranger Peter Breiner.
During the sessions, which took place 14-16 June 2003, Nishizaki and the Hong Kong Philharmonic recorded classic Chinese songs.

A few weeks ago, the staff of Naxos.com got a sneak peak at what promises to be one of the most significant classical releases of 2004. In late April, the Nashville Symphony and the Nashville Symphony Chorus, led by Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn, recorded Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, a powerful work written late in the composer's life.
