José goes to Hollywood
December 2, 2013
Naxos artist José Serebrier has accepted an invitation from Hollywood to conduct the soundtrack of director Carlos Saldanha’s film Rio 2, a sequel to the 2011 3D computer-animated musical adventure and comedy film Rio from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios. The original was a box-office success starring Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenburg, and Jamie Foxx.
Rio 2 tells the story of Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway), two blue macaws that fall in love in Rio de Janeiro in the first film and are breeding to save their species. The two decide in the sequel to fly to the Amazon for their children to see how birds live there, outside of magical city of Rio de Janeiro, thus facing adversity.
The GRAMMY®-award winning, acclaimed conductor and composer José Serebrier is one of today’s most frequently recorded conductors. Serebrier composed and directed the music for the television film The Star Wagon in 1966, but this is his first venture into Hollywood as musical director.
Working with composer John Powell, who has written the scores for many big blockbusters such as the The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, Mr and Mrs Smith, and Ice Age, Serebrier will head to Hollywood on December 5 to conduct the orchestra and prepare orchestrations for Rio 2, which will open in April 2014.
