Mikis Theodorakis About Impressions for Saxophone and Orchestra
January 24, 2007
Impressions for Saxophone and Orchestra presents virtuosic works by 20th Century Greek Composers, performed by saxophonist Theodore Kerkezos and the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Myron Michailidis. The CD is the first volume of the Naxos Greek Classics series dedicated to offering the best of contemporary and Late Romantic Greek music, making this repertoire available to a wider public for the first time.
Mikis Theodorakis praises Theodore Kerkezos for giving outstanding performances of his works on the CD Impressions for Saxophone and Orchestra. Read the letter of Mikis Theodorakis’ here(English translation), the original letter in Greek can be viewed here.
I have collaborated with my friend and colleague Mr Kerkezos many times and each time I was given the opportunity to appreciate his professionalism, diligence and responsibility along with exceptional music and artistic abilities, all of which render him a complete interpreter whose main characteristics are his rare virtuosity and ability to put his personal stamp on the works he performs. The release of the new CD "Impressions for Saxophone and Orchestra" by NAXOS makes me very happy because, firstly, the public all over the world will once again have the chance to admire his abilities and secondly because two of my works that are included, were performed in every aspect with regards to the soloist, conductor, and orchestra in a perfect way.
