Villa-Lobos World Première Recordings with Pianist Sonia Rubinsky
May 10, 2007
Brazilian-born pianist Sonia Rubinsky recently recorded Volumes 7 and 8 of her internationally acclaimed cycle of the complete piano music by Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959).
Several of the works to be included on Volume 7 are world première recordings: Cortejo Nupcial, Canções de Cordialidade and Feijoada Sem Perigo, a work Ms. Rubinsky received from the Museum Villa-Lobos only days before recording sessions began. Volume 8 will include, among other works, the Suite Infantil, Nos. 1 and 2.
Recording sessions took place from March 21 to 22 , and from April 19 to 20, at the Église Évangélique Saint-Marcel in Paris, France, and were produced and engineered by Nikolaos Samaltanos. Ms. Rubinsky plays a Fazioli grand piano on both albums.
