New Recordings of Works by Aaron Copland
May 23, 2007
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra, led by their Music Director Robert Hanson, recorded Aaron Copland’s Concerto for Piano, Old American Songs and the Suite from The Tender Land, following a weekend of concerts culminating the orchestra’s 2006-2007 Aaron Copland: American Icon Festival.
Pianist Benjamin Pasternack was the featured soloist for the Concerto. Baritone Nathaniel Stampley was soloist for both sets of the Old American Songs, accompanied by the orchestra and The St. Charles Singers, who were led by their director Jeffrey Hunt. Benjamin Pasternack has previously recorded Copland's music for solo piano with Naxos (8.559184).
The recording sessions were held on May 8 and 9, at the Elgin Community College, Blizzard Theatre, USA, and were produced and engineered, in Surround Sound, by Tim Handley.
