Leoš Janáček Opera Suites Recorded in New Zealand

June 5, 2007

The great Czech composer Leoš Janáček won his greatest and most well-deserved recognition in the 20th century as an opera composer. Conductor Peter Breiner and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra recently recorded instrumental suites from four of the operas which will be spread over two CDs. The first CD will include Her Stepdaughter, more popularly known as Jenufa, and The Excursions of Mr. Broucek; the second CD will consist of Kátya Kabanová and The Makropulos Affair.

The sessions took place from May 28 to June 1st, at Town Hall in Auckland, New Zealand, and were recorded in surround sound. Wayne Laird was the producer and engineer.
