Three New Rheinberger Organ Sonata Volumes Recorded in Germany

June 18, 2007

Organist Wolfgang Rübsam recently completed recording the next three volumes of his ongoing survey of the complete organ works by the 19th century romantic composer Joseph Rheinberger. As with all five previously released volumes in this series, all the performances took place in Fulda, Germany, at the Fulda Cathedral’s Rieger-Sauer Organ, considered one of the finest cathedral organs in Germany today. The sessions were held from 28 April to 1 May, 5 to 7 May, and 2 to 4 June, 2007.

Recorded were Sonatas Nos. 14 -20 (the final seven Rheinberger organ sonatas), 12 Monologues for Organ, Op. 162, and 3 early Preludes & Fugues for Organ. Three additional volumes remain to be recorded, which will complete this notable survey of Rheinberger’s organ music.
