Pianist Jie Chen Records Transcriptions of Traditional Chinese Music by Contemporary Chinese Composers

June 29, 2007

For her dèbut recording on the Naxos label, pianist Jie Chen recorded a number of works by contemporary Chinese composers Wang Jian Zhong, Zhu Wang Hua, Li Ying Hai and Wang Li San. Most of these works are transcriptions of music originally composed for Chinese traditional instruments during the 1960s and 70s, while others are transcriptions of famous Chinese songs composed during this same time period.

The recording sessions took place on 6 and 7 June 2007 at the Glenn Gould Studio, Toronto, Canada, and were produced and engineered by Norbert and Bonnie Kraft.

A winner of a number of piano competitions, Jie Chen was recently rewarded First Prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions event, held in New York City in 2006.
