Daniel Spalding and Bournemouth Symphony Record Vittorio Giannini
July 9, 2007
The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, led by Daniel Spalding, recently completed the recording of two works by the American composer Vittorio Giannini: Symphony No. 4 and the Piano Concerto with pianist Gabriela Imreh.
Giannini’s music, hewing to tradition and often sounding as though composed in an earlier era, is marked by its melodic, tuneful and tonal qualities, making it surprising that his thoroughly pleasing music is all too rarely heard or recorded today.
The recording sessions, held on June 26th and 27th, 2007, took place at the Lighthouse, Poole, UK. Tim Handley produced and engineered the sessions in Surround Sound. Naxos has one prior release of music by Giannini (8.570130), which includes his oft-heard work, Symphony No. 3 for Wind Band.
