Reviving Rare Romantic Oboe Music

July 20, 2007

Italian virtuoso oboist and composer Antonio Pasculli (1842-1924) wrote fantasies on themes from the lyric operas of his time. Ivan Paisov and Natalia Scherbakova recorded a programme by Pasculli for oboe and piano. Both musicians are international concert soloists, and lead artists with the Moscow State Philharmonic Society and ensemble ADAGIO.

Recorded were Fantasy on the themes from La Favorita by Donizetti; Fantasy on the themes from Poliuto by Donizetti; Grand Concerto on the themes from Siciliani di Vespri by Verdi; Fantasy on the themes from Gli Ugonotti by Meyerbeer, and Scherzo Brillante "Ricordo di Napoli".

Sessions took place from July 1 to 10 in Moscow, and were produced and engineered by Natalia Ruzhanskaya.
