Four Works by Lyell Cresswell Recorded in New Zealand

August 28, 2007

Born in 1944, Lyell Cresswell is a New Zealand composer who has been based permanently in Edinburgh since 1985. Determinedly iconoclastic, his music has won many awards and is widely performed. From August 14 to 18, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Judd, recorded a Cresswell programme in Wellington Town Hall. Soprano Madeleine Pierard sings in The Voice Inside for soprano, violin and orchestra and Cassandra's Songs for soprano and orchestra. The sessions also included Kaea Concerto for trombone and orchestra and Alas! How Swift for trumpet and orchestra.
