Thomas Sanderling records Taneyev with Novosibirsk Orchestra October 26, 2007
The last volume of Sergey Ivanovich Taneyev's orchestral works was recorded last month in Russia. A pupil of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov wrote that Taneyev’s opera Oresteya, “was striking in its wealth of beauty and expressiveness”. Thomas Sanderling led the Novosibirsk Academic Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Choir of Novosibirsk Philharmonic Society for the recording of Overture to Oresteya, Op.6; Overture to the opera Oresteya; Overture in d minor; Adagio in C for small orchestra, Overture on a Russian theme in C; Canzona for clarinet and string orchestra in f minor, with soloist Stanislav Yankovsky, and ‘I Have Built myself a Monument not Made by Hands’, a cantata on Pushkin's verse Exegi Monumentum.
Sessions took place at the West Siberian Newsreal Studio (Zapadno-Sibirskaja studia Kinochroniki), Russia from September 1 to 15. Producers were Lev Krokushansky and Piotr Kondrashin. |
