November 14, 2007
A new recording, featuring two works for cello and orchestra by Aram Khachaturian, was made with The Moscow City Symphony "Russian Philharmonia" conducted by Maxim Fedotov, well-known as a formidable violinist with several highly acclaimed Naxos recordings to his name. The soloist in both works was Dmitry Yablonsky.
Recorded were Khachaturian’s Cello Concerto (1946) and the virtuoso Concerto-Rhapsody for cello and orchestra (1963), written for Mstislav Rostropovich. Sessions took place at House of Music in Moscow, Russia, and were produced by Pavel Levrenenko. Aleksandr Karasev was the engineer.
