Godowsky and Scherbakov: Volume 10 Completed December 7, 2007
Piano virtuoso Konstantin Scherbakov, a prolific Naxos recording artist, recently completed recording sessions for the tenth volume in his ongoing survey of Leopold Godowsky’s works for piano. Released on the Marco Polo imprint, the first eight volumes are currently available, including the recently released and well-received Vol. 8 (8.225274), which includes the fascinating and compelling Java Suite. A giant among pianists, Godowsky (1870-1938) composed hundreds of works for piano, often very demanding to perform.
Volume 10 highlights two works first published in 1912; the Walzemasken (24 Tonfantasien im Dreivierteltakt für Klavier) and the Symphonische Metamorphosen Johann Strauss'cher Themen. The recording sessions took place on 12 and 13 November 2007 at Potton Hall, UK, and were produced and engineered by John Taylor. |
