Marin Alsop Records Latest Installment of Roy Harris’ Complete Symphonies June 11, 2008
Marin Alsop conducted the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in the latest recordings of the complete symphonies of Roy Harris. Marin Alsop, Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, is now Conductor Emeritus of the BSO, having been the orchestra’s Principle Conductor from 2002 to 2008. Alsop’s recording of Harris’ Symphony Nos. 3 and 4, released on Naxos in 2006, was rated 9/9 by Classics Today. Oklahoma born Harris is one of the greatest 20th century American composers. Associated with Howard Hanson and Serge Koussevitsky, his reputation rests on his 13 symphonies, music standing comparison with Copland’s Americana. Recorded were Symphony Nos. 5, Symphony No. 6 and Acceleration. Sessions took place on 9 and 10 May at Lighthouse in Poole, UK, and were produced and engineered in surround sound by Tim Handley. |
