Newly Recorded Chamber Music for Winds by Camille Saint-Saëns June 18, 2008
From June 7 to 9 2008, the National Arts Centre Wind Quintet recorded for Naxos several chamber works for winds by Camille Saint-Saëns, including the Tarantelle for flute, clarinet and piano, Op. 4, the Romance for horn and piano, Op. 67, and the Clarinet Sonata, Op. 167.
Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) was a prodigy, polymath and prolific composer whose works show superior compositional skill and refinement. In an age of heightened degrees of musical expressiveness at the expense of traditional notions of proper form, he composed works respecting form and proportion while taking full advantage of the richness of the Romantic Era’s melodic sensibilities.
The recording sessions took place at the Glenn Gould Studio, C.B.C., Toronto, Canada, and were produced and engineered by Norbert Kraft and Bonnie Silver. |
