Winner’s reward

September 30, 2008

Spanish guitarist Rafael Aguirre, winner of the 2007 International Francisco Tárrega Competition, recorded a recital for Naxos [8.572064] in April at St John Chrystostom in Newmarket, Canada. Works set down include Sor’s Fantasia; Ibert’s Française and Ariette; Ohana’s Tiento; Rautavaara’s Partita, Sentimento and Yemaya; Clerch’s Estudio de escalas; Villa-Lobos’s Estudio No 12; Albéniz’s Capricho catalan; Malats’s Serenata Espanola; and Tárrega’s El carnaval de Venecia.
