Fine Arts Quartet Records Saint-Saëns String Quartets for Naxos

November 14, 2009

The Fine Arts Quartet (violinists Ralph Evans and Efim Boico, cellist Wolfgang Laufer, and new violist Nicolò Eugelmi) just recorded the two magnificent string quartets of Camille Saint-Saëns, the Quartet’s 9th CD for Naxos. The Fine Arts Quartet is one of America’s finest chamber ensembles.

Sessions took place 26–28 October, 2009 at the the Library of Wittem Monastery (Klooster Wittem), The Netherlands. Florian B. Schmidt was the producer engineer.

Their albums of the complete Mendelssohn String Quintets [Naxos 8.570488] and Glazunov’s chamber music [Naxos 8.570256] were named “Recordings of the Year” in 2008 and 2007, respectively, by Musicweb International, and their recording of Schumann’s string quartets [Naxos 8.570151] was singled out by the American Record Guide as “one of the very finest chamber music recordings of the year”.
