The King’s Singers Valentine’s Day Serenade

February 9, 2010

Dedicate a King’s Singers’ song to your loved one on ClassicsOnline for a chance to have it performed at the concert

Grammy® Award winning vocal group The King’s Singers will make a rare Nashville appearance on Sunday, February 14 at 3:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Boasting a catalog of almost 100 recordings, the critically acclaimed King’s Singers, with members David Hurley (countertenor), Timothy Wayne-Wright (countertenor), Paul Phoenix (tenor), Philip Lawson (baritone), Christopher Gabbitas (baritone), and Stephen Connolly (bass), will be performing songs of love for this special Valentine’s Day concert. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Youth Ministry’s Mission and Laudate Youth Choir Tour to Guatemala. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets or by calling 1-800-838-3006.

As a Valentine’s tribute to King’s Singers fans who can’t be in Nashville for this special concert, ClassicsOnline is asking that the group’s admirers choose a portion of the repertoire for the performance. Simply vote for your favorite King’s Singers song on the ClassicsOnline site. Once your vote is cast, you will have the option of submitting a dedication that goes along with your favorite song. One winning dedication will be selected for each of the top 6 songs and will be performed at this special Valentine’s Day concert. These 6 song dedications will be filmed and available for on-demand streaming on ClassicsOnline the evening of the concert for the winners and the rest of the world to see. For contest rules, visit ClassicsOnline.

Described by The Times as a group that has “stayed in character over four decades, yet retuned itself to the times” and by Gramophone as “enchanting the ear from first to last note” The King’s Singers are truly remarkable. They continue to be one of the most sought-after and critically acclaimed vocal ensembles in the world. During their 2009/10 season The King’s Singers will give over 130 concerts across Europe, the USA, and in Japan, China, Malaysia, Taipei and South Korea. With a discography of well over 100 recordings The King’s Singers have garnered both awards and significant critical acclaim. Their recent studio album Simple Gifts was awarded a Grammy® in 2009. A world premiere recording of Music for Vespers by Pachelbel with Charivari Agréable will go on sale in March 2010, and June sees the release of a smooth-jazz-inspired album, Swimming over London.

The King’s Singers have an extraordinary history on television with PBS broadcasts in the US and numerous appearances for the BBC in the UK and on European and Far East channels. In addition to their sold-out concerts worldwide, The King’s Singers share their artistry through workshops and master classes and through their arrangements which are sung by schools, college choirs and amateur and professional ensembles the world over.
