NAXOS OF AMERICA SIGNS WORLDWIDE DIGITAL
DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH INDEPENDENT ONLINE DISTRIBUTION ALLIANCE (IODA)
Agreement is part of long-term plan by Naxos and Naxos of America to bring classical
music to digital realm through downloading and streaming services
Naxos of America, America’s leading classical
music distributor, announced on August 11th a worldwide
digital distribution deal with The Independent Online Distribution Alliance
(IODA). Naxos of America will use IODA’s Digital Distribution
Dashboard (D3) technology platform to distribute and manage its distributed
labels’ music online, in an agreement that also extends distribution of
Naxos’ renowned catalogue to select digital service providers.
"As Naxos continues to position itself at the forefront
of the digital landscape, we are proud to join the distinguished artists, labels
and distribution partners of the IODA network,” Jim Selby, COO, Naxos
of America, Inc. “IODA is a key player in the evolution of independent
music distribution and promotion, and Naxos of America is excited to expand
the online presence of its award-winning catalogue and the music of its distributed
labels through this partnership with IODA and its D3 service.”
The deal with IODA is the latest initiative by Naxos to
make its entire catalogue of over 70,000 tracks available to music-lovers online
and is part of a long-term plan by Naxos of America to expand the reach of all
its distributed labels into the digital realm.
In June, Naxos of America added thousands of Naxos tracks
to the OverDrive Digital Library Reserve,a service that makes digital versions
of the world's greatest classical recordings available for downloading through
library web sites. Leading public libraries coast-to-coast already offer
a similar service for Naxos Audio Books.
Naxos is a strong presence in the iTunes Music Store,
with its CDs regularly appearing in the top ten albums for classical releases;
its tracks are also available on Real Network’s Rhapsody, MSN, and Napster.
Naxos currently also leads the way in digital streaming
of classical music, with three different services available to consumers
and institutions. Naxos Music Library (www.naxosmusiclibrary.com)
makes the entire Naxos catalogue--plus a number of other labels' recordings--available
online in either CD quality (128 K) or near-CD quality (64K). Naxos has
been marketing this service primarily to libraries and educational institutions
and currently has 484 institutions and 270 individual subscribers.
Naxos Web Radio (www.NaxosRadio.com)
offers over 60 commercial-free channels in near-CD quality of classical music,
jazz, blues, nostalgia, historical, world, folk and new age programmed by style
and category. Visitors to Naxos.com
can register at the site to receive information from Naxos; the web site
currently has 178,000 subscribers.
