Release date: November 15th,
NaÏve is pleased to present a new CD of Górecki's Symphony
No. 3 and the world premiere recording of Canticum Graduum for
quadruple ensemble of woodwind, brass, and strings, performed by the Polish
orchestra Sinfonia Varsovia under the baton of Alain Altinoglu.
They are joined by soprano Ingrid Perruche, "vocal discovery of the
year" at the Victoires de la Musique in 2005.
Premiered at the Royan Festival in 1977, Górecki's Third Symphony was
generally ignored before being used by Maurice Pialat as the theme music
for his film Police in 1986. It made a sensational and totally
unexpected comeback in 1992, when a recording of the work shot to the
Top 10 in the UK pop charts. Since then it has been regularly performed
all over the world.
The booklet to this recording includes text written by
Imre Kertész, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2002.
NaÏve is distributed in the United States by Naxos of America.
