US release date: February 21 st, 2006

On February 21st, Naxos will release a new studio recording of Handel’s opera Rinaldo featuring Naxos recording artists Kevin Mallon and the Aradia Ensemble as well as singers from Toronto’s Opera in Concert.

Rinaldo was Handel’s first opera written for audiences in London, where it was staged in 1711.  The libretto, based on Torquato Tasso’s 16th-century epic of the Crusades, was set in the space of just two weeks by Handel, who made full use of earlier compositions written during his time in Italy.

This latest Handel recording is one of a string of excellent releases from the Aradia Ensemble and Kevin Mallon on Naxos.  Their CD of Water Music (8.557764), released in January 2006, is an Editor’s Choice in the March 2006 issue of Gramophone.
