Naxos recording wins Fondazione Giorgio Cini prize

February 15, 2002

Venice -- Naxos's recording of Luigi Boccherini's string quartets, op. 32 and Op. 39, performed by the Quartetto Borciani, has won a prestigious Premio Internazionale del Disco Antonio Vivaldi. The award ceremony is to take place at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on Saturday March 9, 2002.

The Quartetto Borciani is Fulvio Luciani, first violin; Elena Ponzoni, second violin; Roberto Tarenzi, viola and Claudia Ravetto, cello. They came together as an ensemble in 1984, choosing the quartet's name as an homage to their teacher Paolo Borciani. The Quartetto Borciani has performed in major venues throughout Italy, including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Teatro San Carlo of Naples and the Teatro Regio in Turin. Elsewhere in Europe it has been heard in London's Purcell Room and at the Grosser Saal of the Mozarteum in Salzburg as well as at concerts in Germany, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
