AFAESE MANOA (b 1942 )
David Schiff was born in New York City in 1945. He studied musical composition with John Corigliano and Ursula Mamlok at the Manhattan School of Music and with Elliott Carter at the Juilliard School. He has composed music for orchestra, musical theater, chamber ensemble, jazz ensembles and for synagogue worship.
He is also the author of books on the music of Elliott Carter and George Gershwin and writes about music for The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly and The Nation. Since 1980 he has taught at Reed College, Portland, Oregon.
