AGUSTIN PRUNELL-FRIEND The tenor Agustín Prunell-Friend was born in Tenerife and studied singing at the Guildhall School in London. He made his début at the Madrid Teatro de La Zarzuela in Rossini’s La Cenerentola in 1996 with Antoni Ros Marbà and has since been in great demand for Rossini, baroque and contemporary repertoire all over the world. He has sung in theatres including the Madrid Teatro Real, La Fenice in Venice, Covent Garden, and for New Zealand Opera, and has appeared with such orchestras as the Orquesta Nacional de España, Tenerife Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic, Berlin Rundfunk, Dresden Philharmonic, Mexico Symphony and Nazionalle della RAI, among others. He has performed under the baton of directors including R. Frühbeck de Burgos, E. Colomer, E. Bátiz, A. Zedda, A. Marcón, and V. Pablo. His engagements have included appearance in Britten’s War Requiem with Lorin Maazel, Mozart’s Requiem with Sir Neville Marriner, Sartorio’s Orfeo with Zedda and Pizzi, Handel’s Jephtha with Collegium Vocale Gent and Akademie für alte Musik Berlin, Berlioz’s Requiem and Carmina Burana with Frühbeck de Burgos and L’incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi at the Mozart Festival at La Coruña. His recordings include excerpts from Tippett’s Robin Hood under the baton of the composer and other works for Naxos, RTVE and Mondo Musica. He has translated, with Meirion Bowen, two books about Roberto Gerhard. Agustín Prunell-Friend is member of Graham Johnson’s Songmakers’ Almanac and received the Tenerife Casino Prize in 2001.
