Violinist Geoffrey Applegate joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1981 and in 1986 was appointed Principal Second Violinist by Gunther Herbig. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras in the United States and South America, and has been featured repeatedly as soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, with such conductors as Neeme Järvi, Paavo Berglund, Christopher Hogwood, Nicholas McGegan, Robert King, and entertainer Bobby McFerrin. Chamber music performances have included collaborations with the legendary violinist Isaac Stern and a recording of the Stravinsky Sextet with pianist James Tocco on the Koch label. Active in the recording studio, he has recorded a total of 37 compact discs, recording virtually the entire violin concerto repertoire for MMO on 28 CDs, including the concertos of Bruch, Bach, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Mozart. His chamber music recordings appear on the Koch label.
