Birte Kulawik was born in Berlin and had her first violin lessons from the age of seven. She completed her studies in singing with Elisabeth Wilke, and in violin and baroque violin, at the Dresden Carl Maria von Weber Musikhochschule. In different master classes she perfected her training, among them with Barbara Mud, Jessica Cash and Semjon Skigin. She took important musical inspiration from her membership for many years of the Dresden Chamber Choir under Hans Christoph Rademann.

Since 2000 Birte Kulawik has appeared as a soprano soloist in numerous church musical performances as well as serving as a member of ensembles including the Immortal Bach Ensemble, formerly the Gewandhaus Chamber Choir, and the Berlin Radio Choir. She also works particularly in music of the baroque and early baroque and takes part in concerts with different chamber music ensembles, as well as in song recitals. Birte Kulawik has participated in various recordings and broadcast productions. Apart from her concert activity she also works as a voice trainer with the Dresden Singing Academy.
