CASTILE AND LEON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Established in 1991 through the initiative of the Junta de Castilla y León, under the direction of Max Bragado Darman, the principal conductor until 1999, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León worked from 2001 to 2004 under its principal guest conductor Salvador Mas, and now has Alejandro Posada as principal conductor. The orchestra has become one of the most dynamic and innovative ensembles of its kind in Spain, with a classical and contemporary repertoire, appearances in the principal concert venues in the country, and tours abroad to Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and the United States. The orchestra has worked with conductors and soloists of distinction, including Gianandrea Noseda, Cristóbal Halffter, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Josep Pons, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Antoni Ros-Marbá, Kryzsztof Penderecki, Robert King, Jin Wang, Jean Jacques Kantorow, Giovanni Antonini, Harry Christopher, Ton Koopman, Jesús López Cobos, Dmitri Sitkovetski, James Judd, Alberto Zedda, Tuomas Ollila, Eduardo López Banzo, Vasili Petrenko, Juanjo Mena and Semion Bychkov, and Teresa Berganza, Alicia de Larrocha, Arcadi Volodos, Horacio Gutiérrez, Sergei Yerokin, Ainhoa Arteta, Silvia Marcovici, Asier Polo, Elizabeth Leonskaja, Carlos Álvarez, Joaquín Achúcarro, Mischa Maisky, Elena de la Merced, Josep Miquel Ramón, David Wilson-Johnson, Natalia Gutman, Carolyn Sampson, Magriet von Reisen, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Mariola Cantarero, Joan Pons, Francisco Casanova, Steven Isserlis, Ara Malikian, Alessio Bax, Dietrich Henschel, Lilya Zilberstein, Andrea Bacchetti, Julian Rachlin, Eldar Nebolsin, Kirill Gerstein, Nicolaj Znaider, Johan Botha, Petra Lang, Alfred Walker, Frank Peter Zimmerman and Manuel Barrueco. Recordings by the orchestra include a notable addition to the Naxos series devoted to the orchestral works of Joaquín Rodrigo.
