CHEN-YE YUAN

An alumnus of the Houston Grand Opera Studio and the San Francisco Opera Merola Program, baritone Chen-Ye Yuan has enjoyed success at the Welsh National Opera, Opera Hong Kong, and leading American opera-houses. His engagements have included the rôle of Chou En-Lai in Adams’s Nixon in China with Cincinnati Opera, Opera Colorado, Vancouver Opera, and the Canadian Opera Company. He has appeared in concert with orchestras in America and Asia, and was a winner of the 1998 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and of both First Prize and Audience Choice Awards in the 1998 Eleanor McCollum Competition; the gold medal in the 1994 International Tchaikovsky Competition; and first prize in the 1994 Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition. He is Visiting Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
