CORNELIA HORAK Born in Vienna, Cornelia Horak completed her schooling at the Vienna Musikgymnasium. She worked in vocal ensembles and choruses and studied singing at the Goethe Conservatory with Hilde Rössel-Majdan and baroque singing with Cristina Miatello in Padua. In 1992 she won the ‘s’Hertogenbosch International Song Competition. From 1993 to 1999 she was a member of the company of the Tyrol Regional Theatre in Innsbruck, from 1999 to 2000 a member of the Vienna Volksoper and from 2000 to 2007 was engaged by the Munich Gärtnerplatz Theatre.
For her performance as Orlofsky she was nominated for the Mercury Theatre Prize and named by the reviewer of the Berlin Tagesspiegel in the 2003 year-book of Opernwelt as the artiste of the rising generation. She has given concerts and song recitals at the Salzburg Festival, the Feldkirch Schubertiade, the Vienna Festival Weeks, the Ludwigsburg Festival, Graz Styrian, Eisenstadt Haydn, Saalfeld Jazz, Bregenz, Budapest Spring, Lockenhaus Organ, Kremerata, Allegro Vivo Chamber Music, Bad Ischl Operetta, Musica Sacra and Vienna Klangbogen Festivals, with conductors including Adam Fischer, Bruno Weil, Peter Schreier, Nicholas McGeagan, Howard Arman, Neville Marriner, Jordi Savall and Ulf Schirmer.
