DARIUSZ WISNIEWSKI Dariusz Wisniewski
Born in 1968 in Katowice, the conductor and double bass player
Dariusz Wisniewski studied piano, trumpet, double bass and conducting, and in
1987 graduated with distinction from the Szymanowski Liceum Muzyczne in Katowice.
After two years of graduate studies in Warsaw he auditioned for the Eastern
Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina, and was awarded full tuition and
won an international concerto competition during the festival. He was then offered
a full scholarship for study at Yale, where he graduated with distinction in
1991, followed by three years teaching the double bass and chamber music, and
working on his Doctoral Degree at State University of New York in Stony Brook.
Returning to Europe, where he studied at the Liege Royal Conservatoire, he was
appointed second principal double bass in the orchestra of the Royal Swedish
Opera, moving three years later to the position of an assistant principal with
the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. His career has brought knowledge
of a wide repertoire, both as a player and as a conductor, in addition to experience
in teaching and coaching.
