DELRAY STRING QUARTET
Mei Mei Luo • Tomas Cotik, violins
Richard Fleischman, viola
Claudio Jaffé, cello
Formed in 2004, the Delray String Quartet has established itself as one of the leading musical groups of South Florida. The quartet has been described by the press as ‘well-balanced and elegant’, ‘adding luster to the South Florida music scene’, and ‘with the players ripping into the music with savage abandon’. Kenneth Fuchs’s String Quartet No 5 (‘American’) is their first recording for Naxos. The DSQ comprises four artists who are extraordinary in their own right. First violinist Mei Mei Luo is a member of the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival and served as assistant concert master of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra. As a soloist, she has performed the Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, and Bruch violin concertos. Second violinist Tomas Cotik performed with the Harrington String Quartet and served as concert master of the Amarillo Symphony and as a member of the New World Symphony. His recent recording of Schubert’s music for violin and piano was released by Centaur Records. Violist Richard Fleischman, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, is professor of viola at Miami’s New World School of the Arts and principal violist of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. He is a former member of the San Francisco Symphony and served as guest principal violist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Cellist Claudio Jaffe holds degrees from Yale University and has performed in prestigious concert halls of New York City, Washington, DC, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, London, Tokyo, and Ottawa.
