HENRI DEMARQUETTE The cellist Henri Demarquette studied at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in the classes of Philippe Muller and Maurice Gendron. He also worked with Pierre Fournier and Paul Tortelier, then, in the United States with János Starker. His career began when he was seventeen with a recital at the Théâtre du Châtelet. He attracted the notice of Yehudi Menuhin, who invited him to play Dvořák’s Cello Concerto under his direction in Prague and in Paris. His subsequent career has taken him to many musical capitals with major French and foreign orchestras and with distinguished colleagues, including Brigitte Engerer, Michel Dalberto and François-Frédéric Guy. His many recordings include Bach’s Cello Suites. Henri Demarquette plays a 1697 cello by the Italian maker Goffredo Cappa.
