DOUBLEPLAY PERCUSSION DUO
DoublePlay grew out of Dominic Donato’s and Stephen Paysen’s long-standing collaboration at the Composers Conference. For many years they have worked together with today’s best young composers, many of whom have gone on to become the next generation of established composers in the USA and around the world.
Dominic Donato has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia as a soloist and chamber artist and is also active as a composer and teacher. In 2007, he was selected by Meet the Composer as one of eight “Soloist Champions” in honor of his continuing commitment to new music and the solo percussion repertoire.
Dominic Donato is currently the head of the Percussion Department and director of the Contemporary Ensemble at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, SUNY. He is a graduate of Stony Brook University and the Manhattan School of Music. Please visit his website at www.musicfortamtams.com.
In addition to DoublePlay, Stephen Paysen is active as a soloist as well as ensemble performer in New York City, and is staff percussionist with the Composers Conference under the direction of Mario Davidowsky. He has performed with Speculum Musicae, The Washington Square Contemporary Music Society Ensemble, The Group for Contemporary Music, The Orchestra of the Twentieth Century, Abacus Percussion Group, and in Broadway pit orchestras.
He has recorded on the CRI, New World, Opus One, Desto, and Albany labels, including George Crumb’s “dyll for the Misbegotten, Robert Moeves’ Concerto for Piano, Percussion and Orchestra, and John Lessard’s Duo for Percussion and Piano.
Stephen received his Doctorate in performance from Stony Brook University.
