JINANANDA Jinananda, also known as Duncan Steen, was born in 1952 in Bedford, England. Brought up in the Church of England which he enjoyed (thanks to the music and the Authorised Version) he took up transcendental meditation in 1970 and later studied Samkhya yoga in India before discovering Buddhism in England. He was ordained within the Western Buddhist Order in 1986, when he was given his Buddhist name, which means ‘Bliss of the Conqueror’. From 1990–1996 he worked as an editor for his teacher, Urgyen Sangharakshita. He is the author of Warrior of Peace: The Life of the Buddha published by Windhorse Publications. He has also written The Middle Way – The Story of Buddhism and Karma and Rebirth – in a Nutshell for Naxos AudioBooks. He has taught meditation and Buddhism since 1987 and has been the Chairman of the West London Buddhist Centre since 2005.
