ELAINE VALBY Elaine Valby appears regularly on the Phoenix Concert series in New York City, most recently collaborating with pianist Jocelyn Dueck on a program of ghost stories and witches’ songs. The mezzo-soprano has appeared twice at Dance New Amsterdam with dancer/choreographer Amy Pivar in versions of their long-term project Songs for Solo Dance and Voice. In spring 2007 Valby portrayed the High Priest in Gilda Lyons’s opera The Walled-Up Wife in performances at American Opera Projects in Brooklyn. She portrayed May Joyce in Daron Hagen’s The Antient Concert in several recent New York performances. She originated the title role in the 2004 premiere of Paula M. Kimper's opera, The Captivation of Eunice Williams, and also played Sarah in the premiere of Kimper’s first opera, Patience and Sarah, at Lincoln Center Festival 98.
