The soprano Fanie Anielou was born in Athens, where she studied before continuing her studies in opera with Dunja Vejzovic and Ulrike Sonntag, and in Lied with Cornelis Witthoefft at the Stuttgart Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst, where she graduated with honours. In March 2005 she won the Grand Prix “Maria Callas” in the Oratorio-Lied category, at the Maria Callas Competition in Athens. She also won the Frankfurt Mendelssohn prize in 2008 and 2009. She made her début at the Stuttgart State Opera as Inez in Il trovatore, launching a career in the theatre and concert hall.
