Ferenc Valter was born in 1961 in Budapest. He participated in the masterclasses of Sylvia Geszty in Austria and Ugo Benelli and Nikolai Gjuzelev in Italy. In 1993 he won first prize at the First International Singing Competition of Budapest in the rôle of Sarastro. In the same year he made his début at the Hungarian State Opera in the same rôle. He has since sung over fifty rôles including Gurnemanz (Parsifal), Hunding (Die Walküre), Friar Lawrence (Roméo et Juliette), Timur (Turandot), Pimen (Boris Godunov), The Commendatore (Don Giovanni) and the bass solo in Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher.
