MARK FOSTER

Mark Foster was born in Melbourne in 1957. He won a Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst bursary and from 1978 to 1980 extended his knowledge in Munich, where he conducted, composed and orchestrated music for stage and screen. He became Assistant Conductor at Zurich Opera, then from 1981 to 1983 at the Berlin Opera. He worked closely with Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniel Barenboim and Ferdinand Leitner. Appointed Director of Musical Studies at Lyons Opera, with Peter Eötvos he led the conducting courses at the Hungarian Bartók Festival. He assisted Emmanuel Krivine at the French youth Orchestra and founded the Forum ensemble in Lyons in 1985, to promote twentieth-century music. Mark Foster has since conducted the most prestigious groups, including the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra, the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the RAI orchestras in Turin and Milan, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France.
